“Over the past decade, DGP has supported and guided me along my career path with opportunities to get me to where I am today. For this, I am dedicated and committed to the company, ensuring I give the same guidance and support back to my team through creating a positive and open working environment, where everyone can progress and grow”.
Gavin

I was born in Amritsar, Punjab and made the decision to move to the UK in 2009 for a better quality of life. Before moving to the UK, I worked on the family farm in India where we grew up and harvested wheat, barley, and vegetables. After working in the farming industry for nine years I was keen to explore other trades, one being the construction industry, where I began my career with DGP in 2010.

What does equality and diversity mean to you?

It means you are accepted for who you are, especially when it comes to race, sex, religion etc. I’m passionate about creating an environment where everybody has equal opportunity with no barriers. My team is very diverse in language and being fluent in several languages gives me the opportunity to communicate efficiently across the team.

How long have you been working for DGP and how did you come to join us?

A friend that was working for DGP at the time introduced me to the construction industry where I began my career with DGP in December of 2010. I started as a General Operative. DGP supported my development through a range of different roles which led to my promotion to Logistics Manager in 2013.

Do you feel supported and what is the atmosphere like within the team? Do you feel part of the team?

Yes, very supported. Over the past decade, DGP has supported and guided me along my career path with opportunities to get me to where I am today. For this, I am dedicated and committed to the company, ensuring I give the same guidance and support back to my team through creating a positive and open working environment, where everyone can progress and grow.

Yes, I also feel part of the team. Due to the nature of the work, the team is naturally under pressure to meet deadlines. But being so close-knit, we know each other’s strengths and weakness and together we are an incredible team. I ensure I do my best to make people feel appreciated, recognised, supported, and accepted. My top priority is to maintain this level of support throughout the team with regular meetings, including group chats outside of work where we have a laugh. I want to continue to see the positive workplace culture with team members also supporting each other outside of the workplace.

Do you feel there are opportunities to guide you on your career journey with DGP?

DGP has guided me over the past decade with training and presently I am studying towards my CIOB. Currently, I am happy in my position, and I am enjoying the project. From experience, I know that when I am ready, DGP will provide me with opportunities and challenges to prove myself to further advance within my career.

What is the best site you have worked on and why?

I’m sorry, I cannot say, but it’s in the title, you must make it your own and logistically work around the obstacles and do what you can to encourage a happy and supportive environment. Every project has its own adventures and own challenges but if you have enough passion, like my team, every site is the best site.
